Joseph G. Struzinski

Born: 9/6/1942 Died: 8/10/2012 Mr. Joseph G. Struzinski, age 69, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Baltimore, MD, on September 6, 1942, Mr. Struzinski was the son of the late Stanley Struzinski and Mary Ellinghause Struzinski. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and would go on to make his career with the former Conrail in Philadelphia, where he retired in 1999. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Mr. Struzinski was an active member of St. Joseph’s parish in Middletown. He was a former member of St. Peter the Apostle parish, where he was a driving force behind the annual church carnival, serving for many years on the carnival committee and twice as chairman. As a longtime advocate for social justice, he also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Struzinski worked tirelessly for many years in support of community athletics. As the beloved coach of “The Flashbacks” for 11 years, he was instrumental in the promotion of the MOT Big Ball League, where he served two terms as the league commissioner. He was also active in league softball for several years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sandra D. Felter Struzinski; daughters, Sharon Gibson of Wilmington, Teresa Ellis and husband Jeffrey of Wilmington, Diana Struzinski of Middletown, and Sarah Chafardon and husband Michael of Smyrna; brother, Gerard Struzinski and wife Marci of Abingdon, MD; sisters, Claire Hale and husband Roger of Baltimore, MD, and Sister Dorothy Marie Struzinski of Minnesota; and grandchildren, Rebecca, Christopher, and Harley Ellis, Michael, Joseph, and Joan Gibson, and Nicholas and Jeramiah Chafardon. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11:45 am on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Ste. 302, Newark, DE 19713.
