William Earl "Bill" Yerger

William Earl “Bill” Yerger, age 76, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 30, 1942, he was a son of the late Justice and Katherine (Scahill) Yerger. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1966. He obtained his M.B.A. from Wilmington University, where he was the first recipient of the prestigious Presidents Leadership award. Bill later dedicated his career to working for the DuPont Company for 27 years, retiring at 49.5 years of age. After his retirement, Bill became a hypnotist while he and Barbara traveled the country in their motor home until they settled in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1999. Bill played football and basketball during his time in the Navy. His football knowledge helped him later excel as a football official, coach and fantasy football player. He also loved to travel and took his family on as many vacations as possible. Grand memories were born at destinations that include Myrtle Beach, Florida, Kentucky and the Jersey Shore. Bill and Barbara enjoyed games of skill and shows during many of their vacations to Las Vegas and Biloxi. His faith was important to him, eventually becoming a Eucharistic Minister. Bill was a driving force in helping secure financing to build St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. His life goals were to have a family, provide for them, and enjoy life, he exceeded these goals by far. Bill was a character who made an impression on everyone he met. He loved his family, friends, football, traveling, gambling, telling jokes to everyone he met, crabs and sharing his wisdom. His life was full and one many aspire to live, he will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Justice Yerger. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara (Frye) Yerger; children, Lisa (Yerger) Hurst (Damon) and William L. Yerger; and siblings, Robert Yerger, Barry Yerger and Katherine Yerger. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow at New St. Paul’s Cemetery, Cox Neck Road, New Castle, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 407, Camden Wyoming, DE 19934 or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church at the address listed above.
