Wayne Norman Brumbley

Wayne Norman Brumbley, age 70, of Elkton passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 after a long battle with cancer at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD. Wayne was born on October 23, 1943 in Salisbury, MD and spent his childhood in the Wicomico County area. He graduated from Wicomico High School in 1961 and remained heavily involved in organizing class reunions with his classmates for the rest of his life. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963. Following training, he was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, where he met Juanita. They were married in 1966, a few months before he began a tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1967 and returned home to Salisbury, MD. Following his return to the states, he began work for Delmarva Power, where he continued in various capacities for the remainder of his career until his retirement in 2012. During Wayne’s 48 year service as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in a number of positions, including Gospel Doctrine teacher, Seminary teacher, Institute teacher, Bishop of Salisbury Ward, High Councilman, and was serving as a counselor in the presidency of the Wilmington, Delaware Stake at the time of his death. He served in the Salisbury Ward, including his term as the bishop of that ward, before moving north to Elkton in 1991. He was known by all as an insightful teacher of the gospel, a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished friend, and a faithful disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Juanita Brumbley; 3 children, Tina (Brumbley) Ball of Cabot, AR, Eric Brumbley of Hebron, MD, and David Brumbley of Olathe, KS; 9 grandchildren, Rachel, Samantha, Charlotte, Josephine and J. Michael Ball, Sydney Brumbley, Tyler Abbott, Gavin Brumbley and Adam Brumbley; a sister, Norma Lee of Orange Park, FL, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10 am on Friday morning, October 24, 2014 at the at the meetinghouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 500 W Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, DE 19713. Friends may visit with Wayne’s family at the church from 6:30-8:00 pm on Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 and from 9:00 “ 9:50 am on Friday morning. Interment will follow funeral services on Friday in Springhill Memorial Gardens, 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron, MD. Following interment, friends may visit with Wayne’s family at the Salisbury meetinghouse located at 106 Green Lane, Salisbury, MD 21804. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne’s memory to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, c/o Bayview Ward, at the above address.
