Tyrone McIver Breeden

Our beloved Tyrone McIver Breeden journeyed home to peace on Sunday, July 10th, 2022. Tyrone was born October 4th, 1957 to the late John Lee McIver and Annie Rose Breeden Patterson in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Tyrone grew up in Corona, Queens in New York City where he completed his education in the New York City Public School system. As a young child Tyrone always found a way to make honest money for an example, he would politely carry a grocery bag, wash cars or utilize his many skills. He earned respect and admiration from his elders as well as his peers. In 1975 Tyrone enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years and was honorably discharged in 1979. Tyrone became a correction officer in 1983, he was employed by the New York City Department of Corrections. He diligently worked at Rikers Island in Queens where he also touched and inspired many people. He retired in 2008, this allowed him to attend everyone’s birthday, funeral, graduation, wedding, events and celebrations. He served as the national president for the Breeden Family Reunions from 2017 up until the time of his passing. He was a counselor to many and a shoulder to lean on. In 1986 he met his future wife Dolores, they fell in love and joined together in marriage on August 17th, 1996. Their marriage was blessed with love, patience, understanding, communication, forgiveness and trust. Tyrone wore many hats. He was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts and any hat he needed to wear to help someone, he wore it willingly and proudly. He was a calm, peaceful, knowledgeable, caring, generous and loving man. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York. Tyrone always looked to God first, he read his scriptures every day and shared them with many people. Tyrone loved to dance, joke, play pool, fish, watch MSNBC and get on the microphone. He was also a good cook. Tyrone loved to ask you a question that he knew the answer to just so he could tell you to look it up. He would say “Google it, read it yourself, that’s the way you learn”. Tyrone was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He cared about everyone. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren; they brought so much joy to his life. Tyrone leaves inspiration, precious memories and his legacy until we meet again: his wife Dolores Breeden, five children: Natasha Breeden, Ranisha Davis (Kenny) of Charlotte, NC, Nylisha Breeden of Raleigh, NC, Chantelle Jackson of Middletown, DE, Michael Jackson of Queens, NY, seven grandchildren: Tavon Jackson, Nyana Houto-Adan, Kennedy Honesty Davis, Justin Jackson, Cree West, Jahmere Jackson, Sanai Keller Jackson, siblings: Irene Ridges (Warren) of Richmond, VA, Levester Patterson (MaryAlice) of Queens, NY, Katherine McCrea of Pine Hurst, NC, Willa McFarland of Southfield, MI, Tara McIver Coteat, Cassie McIver Woodson (Hope) of Jacksonville, FL, Barry McIver (Denise) of Akron, OH, Patrick McIver (Mary), Melissa Fant of Cincinnati, OH, Donny Freeman of CA, a very special niece/sister: Gabe Kennedy aka Tini, God daughter: Tyashia Jones-Kennedy, God son: Mark Smith, sisters-in-law: Manya Breeden, Shirley Breeden, Theresa Perry, Arnetta Davis, Eura Reis, and Betty Davis, brother-in-law: Bobby Davis, a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and all that called him Dad and Grandad. Tyrone has ascended to paradise to join his mother: Annie Rose Breeden Patterson, father: John Lee McIver, sisters: Earline Kennedy, Ann Francis Sellers, Katie Marsh, Portia McIver, Cynthia McIver, brothers: Jerry Breeden, Carlton Leverne Breeden, Larry Breeden and Alfonso Hayward. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A funeral service will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Monday, July 25, 2022, in the chapel at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
