Ted (Edward T.) Godsell

Ted (Edward T.) Godsell, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 4, 2024. Born in Limerick, Ireland, on April 22, 1935, Ted was a son of the late William H. and Charlotte (O’Neill) Godsell. His journey led him to Doncaster, England, where he earned his British Railways’ Certificate of Apprenticeship for Coach Bodymaker & Repairer. He also proudly served in the British Army. A talented musician, Ted learned to play a variety of instruments, including the clarinet, saxophone, and bass. He loved showcasing his skills while playing in several bands. Ted was an avid runner, table tennis player, and golfer. He also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and brain teasers. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with Eva, which is how they met, bringing together family and friends- Ted and Eva graciously hosted dear family and friends on Thanksgiving for almost 30 years- and connecting with those he loved over a good meal and an ice-cold beer- or brandy! Ted was a pillar of his community and dedicated himself to numerous outreach programs, embodying the spirit of service as an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His commitment earned him the esteemed title of 4th degree Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, and the prestigious honor of Color Corps Man of the Year in 2016 for the States of Delaware and Maryland. Professionally, Ted’s industrious spirit shone bright. From home improvement endeavors to guiding others through financial matters as a trusted advisor for John Hancock, Ted’s impact was felt far and wide. For 25 years he stood side by side with his wife Eva, lending his expertise to their Employment Agency business. Ted’s legacy of love and dedication lives on through his cherished family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, Eva; his brother William (Kathy); his son Sean (Suzanne); step-daughters Vickie and Rose Domingo; nieces Kathleen and Caroline; his grandsons Andrew (Amanda), Christopher (Stephanie), and Brandon (Dana); as well as his great-grandchildren Rhylie, Kassadie, Brooklyn, Benjamin and Ireland and extended family and friends near and far. In the hearts of those who knew him, Ted will forever be remembered for his boundless generosity, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones and community. May his soul rest in eternal peace. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Monday, April 22, 2024, at St. Joseph Parish, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 am.
