Steven Syva, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Born: 8/22/1946 Died: 1/7/2013 Mr. Steven Syva, Jr., age 66, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilmington. A native Delawarean, Mr. Syva was born in Wilmington on August 22, 1946, and, as a young man, proudly served his country in the US Army. He made his professional career as a master mechanic working for the City of Wilmington, where he retired. Mr. Syva was a very talented pool player throughout his life and played in many different competitive leagues over the years. He also enjoyed poker, especially Texas hold’em. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Evans and husband Charles Jr. of New Castle, and Cheryl Sill of New Castle; father, Steven Syva, Sr. of Middletown; brother, John Syva and wife Beverly of Newark; sister, Lillian Hicks and husband Arnold of Middletown; grandchildren, Amanda Syva and companion Jonathan M. Southers, Justin Tielleman, Tyler Evans, Cassidy Evans, Christopher Evans, and Kaylyn Klingmeyer; great grandson, Jonathan L. Southers; nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Christine and John Subda and their son Logan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Costin Syva, and brother, Howard Syva. Funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs Community Living Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
