ROY W. BRIMER

Roy W. Brimer, age 70, of New Castle, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2015 in the comfort of his own home with his loving family at his side. His family was inspired by his positive outlook during his year long battle with kidney cancer. Born on October 14, 1944 in Newport News, Virginia, he was a son of the late Claude W. Brimer and Colie R. (Dunaway) Brimer. Mr. Brimer proudly served his country as a member of the Maryland and Delaware Army National Guard. He had a rewarding career at DuPont for 38 years working in various financial roles. His second career was a school bus driver for children with special needs for the John G. Leach School, Colonial School District, which he loved. The children fondly called him Mr. Roy. Roy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and actively served his Our Lady of Fatima Parish. His Catholic Christian faith, family and wonderful friends sustained him. In his leisure time, he enjoyed a lifelong love of aviation, flying as a private pilot for 35 years and enjoying his own small plane for 14 years. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s sport events and playing ball with them. Roy took great pride in working with others to start C.E.R.T.S, Inc., Collaborative Effort to Reinforce Transition Success, a successful day program for young adults with severe disabilities. Among his other community activities, he enjoyed volunteering at the Mary Campbell Center and with Christiana Care Health System. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brimer was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth P. Kenny Brimer, who gave his family much strength. He leaves many fond memories to his loving wife of 45 years, Judith A. Judy (Finley) Brimer; two daughters, Karen M. Hirt, and her husband, Kevin and Christine M. DiGiovanni and her husband, Don; a brother, David Brimer and four wonderful grandchildren, Jack and Amanda Hirt and Donald and Patrick DiGiovanni. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday evening, March 19, 2015 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:30 pm on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Entombment will be held privately, at a later date, in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
