Robert Albert McCullough, Sr.

Robert Albert McCullough, Sr., age 91, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at Seasons Hospice of Wilmington Hospital on Friday, January 21, 2022. Born in New Castle, DE, on December 8, 1930, he was a son of the late Sen. Calvin R. and Charlotte Virginia (Brown) McCullough. Robert was a 1948 graduate of William Penn High School, where he served as Class President and lettered in 3 sports. Robert was a master carpenter for many years before becoming Business Representative for Carpenter’s Local Union 626, UBC&J, a position he held for 24 years until retirement. He served on the Delaware Industrial Accident Board and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and was active in the Democratic Party in Delaware. Robert enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer and sports fan, especially of the Phillies and Eagles. He played on local sports teams and coached Little League teams. Robert was a proud Delawarean, and a proud supporter of all his family members. Robert served in the Air National Guard in 1951-52. He was a Past Master of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 A.M. & F.M., the Nur Temple Shriner’s Club, and a life member of the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed membership in various golf clubs. Bob was affiliated with both United Methodist and Presbyterian churches. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth B. McCullough; brother, Donall L. McCullough; and niece, Karen Peck. He is survived by his children, Linda D. Flanagan of Waldorf, MD; Rev. Robert A. McCullough, Jr. of Rehoboth Beach; and Valerie Daugherty, of Severna Park, MD; sister, Joyce Peck, of Dover; grandchildren, Marcella Flanagan of Newark, NJ; Meredith Drumm (Leon) of Huntingtown, MD; Sean McCullough (Adrienne), of Mercer, PA; Kelsey McCullough, of Newark; Ceara, Devyn, and Bradley Daugherty, of Severna Park, MD; and great-grandchildren, Michael and Aurora Drumm. He is also survived by Jeanette Dorris McCullough, the mother of Linda and Robert, Jr.; Lois Clayton, his companion in his later years and her family; sister-in-law Loretta McCullough and niece, Cie McCullough of New York; brother-in-law Robert Peck and nephew, Rob Peck of Dover, other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a masonic service will be offered at 6:30 pm. A second visitation will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the funeral home, where a funeral service will be held at 12 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance regardless of their vaccination status. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
