Richard W. "Dick" Stott

Richard W. “Dick” Stott, age 92, of Middletown, DE, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 15, 2023. Born in Beverly, MA on April 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Mildred (Fegan) Stott. Dick earned his Associates Degree from Boston University and a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Tufts University. In addition, Dick served in the United States Navy for six years with a rank of LTJG (Lieutenant Junior Grade). Dick went on to teach English, Drama and Speech, and retired at the age of 61. During his 34-year career, Dick was passionate about theater, which he shared with his students and community members. Along with acting and directing numerous theater productions, he was also the Drama Director ‘Coach’ for Stoughton High School and Sandwich High School on Cape Cod. He and his students competed annually in the New England Drama Festival. Dick could always be found cheering on his beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots; he was a loyal fan. Dick also was an avid gardener and enjoyed nature and bird watching. In addition, Dick also had a strong love for language, puns and reading. Dick and Jean always looked forward to the winters spent in Bushnell, FL where they were active volunteers with PAWS Therapy Dogs. Dick and Jean also enjoyed their RV, and they made several trips throughout their retirement, including a six-month adventure from New England to Alaska to Four Corners. They truly enjoyed traveling! Dick will be remembered for his love of theater, love of language, his wit and his captivating smile. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jean M. (Brierley) Stott; and his siblings, Barbara Brovig (Erling) and Thomas E. Stott (Mary). He is survived by his daughters, Penny Balano-Stott (Joel) and Sarah Stott Pilong (Joseph) and grandchildren, Jasper, Caroline, Marissa (Nathaniel), Hannah and TJ; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Sydney. A celebration of life will occur in the spring of 2024.
