Revathy Iyer

Revathy Iyer, 77, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2022 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her husband and children. Revathy was born in Hyderabad, India, immigrated to Philadelphia where she lived for 49 years, and most recently lived in Townsend, Delaware. At 17, Revathy was the first of her family of 13 siblings to immigrate to the United States. For Revathy, family was her utmost priority. She was the catalyst for her broader family’s immigration to the US. She sponsored the immigration of 5 of her 8 surviving siblings and their families to pursue greater opportunities, resulting in a clan of over 60 residing and raising future generations. She was, and will always be the true matriarch of the family. Revathy also assisted countless friends and their families with the emigration process from India, further extending the pursuit of greater opportunities far beyond her own family. Revathy started her career as a document translator at the University of Pennsylvania, spending the majority of her 47 year career working in the library system. Simultaneously as a restaurateur, Revathy and her husband Krishna opened and managed numerous Indian restaurants, a food truck, and a thriving national catering business for over four decades. She adoringly fed people from all walks of life including students, coworkers, friends, politicians, dignitaries, celebrities, the less fortunate, and many more. Revathy loved all people, and expressed that love by cooking and feeding others. She was lovingly known as “Annapurna” – the Hindu Goddess of nourishment. Through her love of cooking, she touched many lives. Revathy cherished Govinda and fiercely loved and protected her family. In retirement, Revathy enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Krishna, and when at home, tending to and harvesting roses in her garden for her daily prayers. Revathy is survived by her husband Krishna; her son and daughter-in-law Anil & Nilima; her daughter and son-in-law Amita & Douglas; her granddaughters Devina & Roslyn; and her grand paw-babies Skye & Baji. A visitation will be held for family and friends from 10 am until 11:30 am on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30.
