M. Ruth Bashford

Born: 10/21/1943 Died: 2/10/2012 Lt Col M. Ruth Bashford, US Army Mrs. M. Ruth Bashford, age 68, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012. Born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada, on October 21, 1943, Ruth was the daughter of the late Everett Walker and Ruth Oshaughnessy Walker. After completing her Nursing degree, she worked tirelessly to further her education, earning both a Master of Nursing and a Master of Adult Education. Ruth was a proud veteran of the US Army, who honorably served during the Vietnam War, and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. While serving in the Army Reserves, she worked as the Executive Director of the Delaware Nurses Association. Additionally, Ruth shared her love of her profession by teaching nursing courses at the University of Delaware, Wilmington University, Neumann University, and Delaware Technical and Community College. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Church. In her leisure time, Ruth enjoyed reading and playing card games. She was an avid football fan. Above all else, Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She will be greatly missed by those who love her. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert F. Bashford; sons, Mark E. Bashford, and his wife, Jeanette, of Old Bethpage, NY, and Erik W. Bashford, and his wife, Heather, of Wilmington, DE; sister, Karon Siewiorek, and her husband, Daniel, of Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren, Matthew, Lennon, and 2 additional grandchildren who are expected this spring. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 5 pm until 7 pm at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at 1 pm in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
