Linda Gannon Escheu

Linda took the hand of her husband Fred, to take her on her heavenly journey on Friday, September 16, 2022. The Summit Memory Care, Limestone Road in Hockessin, was Linda’s final home after bravely battling Dementia for many years. She was the daughter of John Walter and Margaret Maloney Gannon, born on July 27, 1935 in Wilmington, DE. At a young age her parents and brother, Richard, all moved to Delaware City, DE. Linda graduated from Delaware City High School in 1953. She attended Delaware Hospital Nursing School for a short period of time, but then worked for the DuPont Company in Wilmington. It was on her daily walk after work to catch her ride back to Delaware City that she met the love of her life, Alfred Escheu. She offered to share her umbrella on a rainy day! Linda and Fred married in May 1959. They raised their family in Limestone Acres, and they were very involved in the Delaware Saengerbund and the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe in Newark. Linda held various offices in both organizations, and also was a founding member of the Ladies Group of the DSB. Linda was well known for her Christmas cookies, she was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed sewing. Linda and Fred enjoyed traveling, family vacations to the beach, she loved cruising, and a highlight for her was touring Ireland. She was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish for 60 years. Linda’s greatest accomplishment was raising her 4 children, Alfred Jr. (Marela) Winter Park, FL, Andrea Haaz (Theodore) Hermitage, PA, Rainier (Sheila) Lakeland, FL, and Teresa Vikari (Klaus) Wilmington, DE. And her pride and joys, Natalia Escheu (Joshua Donahue), Theodore Haaz Jr., Cordell Haaz, and Hunter Lord. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred Escheu in January 2021, and her brother Richard T. Gannon, and a granddaughter, Malorie F. Haaz. Linda will always be remembered by friends and family as a kind, fun-loving and very compassionate woman. She had a great love for all her Grand-dogs! The Escheu Family would like to thank the staff of the Memory Care at The Summit for their tireless and loving care of our Mother, especially her special friend/caregiver, Melvin! And also, to the Vitas Hospice nurses for their compassion and tender care during Mom’s final days. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
