Lawrence E. "Larry" Curlett

Lawrence E. “Larry” Curlett, age 72, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side on Monday, June 26, 2023. Born in Wilmington, DE on August 29, 1950, he was a son of the late Wilbur E. and Mary Ellen (Bennett) Curlett. Larry was a graduate of the class of 1968 at Gunning Bedford High School as well as Delaware Technical and Community College in 1970. He also served 4 years in the Delaware Army National Guard. Larry worked for 45 years as a field administrator accountant at several companies including, Catalytic Construction Co., Raythern, Washington Group International and spent his final years onsite at the Delaware City Refinery location. After retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at the Christiana Cabela’s from their grand opening until February of 2020. Larry was a true outdoorsman, spending all his free time in nature. He enjoyed hunting, waterfowl hunting, fishing, crabbing, and motorcycle racing, especially with his family and friends. Larry was a dedicated member of the Delaware Wild Lands, National Turkey Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Brandywine Rod and Gun Club, and Delaware Enduro Riders. In addition to his memberships, he was also a Boy Scout leader of Troop 123. When Larry did spend time at home, he loved to cheer on his Philadelphia Eagles and watch NASCAR. He also enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with his best friends. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Curlett Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years. Susan Citro-Curlett; sons, Christopher (Casey) of Townsend and Gregory of St. Georges; brother, Robert (Kathleen) of Smyrna; grandchildren, Tucker and Blair; and many nieces and nephews. The Curlett family would like to extend a special thank you to Delaware Hospice, Michele, Felicia, and Elizabeth for their excellent care and compassion. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE. A funeral service will begin at 10 am on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in New St. Paul’s Cemetery, Delaware City, DE.
