Judith Berndt Walls

Judith Berndt Walls, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Judy touched many lives with her bright smile, quiet sense of humor, and caring attitude. She was born on New Year’s Eve, 1943 in Adrian, Michigan to the late Elly and Susie Berndt and shared her childhood with her sister Sally. She graduated from Adrian High School and began her studies at Adrian College in 1961. She met Michael, the love of her life, in the fall of 1961. She transferred to finish her Dental Hygiene degree at the University of Michigan and graduated in 1965. She and Michael were married in 1965 and were blessed with three wonderful daughters; Stacy (Grayson), Constance (Stephen) and L.E. (Christopher). After 20 years as a Dental Hygienist in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Delaware, Judy decided to embark on a new career and joined Patterson Schwartz as a Realtor. In 1985 Judy co-founded ReMax Associates. She loved being a Realtor and formed lifelong friendships with her ReMax colleagues. She took great joy in working with people to help them find their dream homes. She worked at ReMax until she suffered a massive stroke that forced her to retire in 2007. The stroke robbed her of the ability to walk and talk but in typical Judy fashion she attacked her disability with a vengeance and regained her ability to walk, talk and even drive a car. Judy loved to travel and after her stroke, she and Michael visited England, France, Ireland, Sweden, Croatia, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Holland, Finland, Belgium, Mexico, Italy, Turkey and Hungary. She also particularly enjoyed cruising the European rivers with dear friends from Adrian College and recently took a cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire family. She also loved her second home in Kiawah Island, South Carolina and was never happier than when her entire family was together there, which happened often. Judy loved her family and took great pride in watching her daughters earn their college degrees, marry, and create their own happy families. She adored her grandchildren and will be fondly remembered by, Elaina, Shelby, Charles and Collin. Also left to treasure her memory is her dear sister Sally and her husband Oliver Marcotte, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 11 am until 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Spicer Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, followed by a service at 12:00 Noon. Entombment will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery. Over the past 10 years, Judy has helped transport hundreds of dogs to their forever homes.
