Joseph G. "Joe" Cahall

It is with broken hearts that the family of Joseph G. “Joe” Cahall are sharing that his journey in this life came to an end on Monday, November 1st, 2021. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 21, 1945, he was a son of the late Joseph and Pauline (Davis) Cahall. Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He had numerous professional and athletic accomplishments throughout his lifetime. These accomplishments did not define him, he knew what was significant, his value was what he could provide to his family. In later years Joe became an avid reader. He loved reading and sharing the works of Conan Doyle. He appreciated and shared the written word of this author that he admired. He also read the complete works of Joseph Campbell. I find myself thinking about the significance of the “Hero’s Journey” and my husband. Joe had a hero’s journey and I believe it began in the jungles of Vietnam. He served as a field medic. His journey at times was rough but he ran the race, and I believe he won the race with his last breath. He had an amazing perspective of the world and life The greatest gift he left his family was teaching and living out the need to love a little harder, love unconditionally, give grace to others and be kind. We are blessed to have been left with these gifts to nourish and share with others. His life is not over. It will continue through each person he touched in a valuable way In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Pauline. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra L. (Wentlandt) Cahall; children, Courtney, Joe (Laura), and Abigail (Ryan); 6 grandchildren, Deon, Anthony, Paige, Taylor, Sebastien, and Winnie; and great granddaughter Gwen. The saying is with great love comes great suffering; we can attest to that at this time. With this life event words are so difficult to come by, there is so much to this man, husband, father, pop pop. There are not enough words to describe his generosity, support and the unconditional love he provided to each of us. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm until 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 12:30 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. A committal service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. One day more, one more event, one more holiday was not meant to be. He traveled his road; he ran the race as a warrior. His life will continue through the better parts of us. I know my dear sweet husband is at peace
