Joseph "Joe" Charles Allione, Sr.

Joseph “Joe” Charles Allione, Sr., age 83, of Middletown, DE, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Born in New York, NY on March 12, 1938, he was a son of the late John C. Allione, Sr. and Marie (Becker) Pipitone. Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force during both the Korean Era and Vietnam War. After his service, he worked for Getty Oil, which later became Texaco, where he retired after 28 years of service in 1999. Joe was active in his community, where he served as a co-Girl Scout leader with his wife, led a church softball team, was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge, and a past patron of Caesar Rodney OES #8. He served as Dad Adviser of DeMolay & Associate Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters #8. He was also a dedicated member of New Castle United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. In addition, he volunteered at Frederica Fire Co. 7 years and Aetna Fire Co. over 4 years. He was also active in Delaware Concerns of Police Survivors. Joe was always ready to help, whether shoveling snow or fixing a car or cutting grass for a neighbor. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his faithful golden, Maggie, who had to leave him right after Covid at the age of 14. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Frances Marie Collender; and three brothers; John, Steven & Paul. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Ennis) Allione; children, DebbieSue, Joe Allione, Jr. and wife Becca, and Vickie Lynne Newcomer and husband Scott; sister, Judy Haynes and husband Ernie; 9 grandchildren, Samantha, Taylor, Lewis, DJ, Sean, Joey, Eleanor, Scotty, and Jessi; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was loved by his entire extended family including Helen and Terry Swartz, Alice and Herb Hoflinger, Trish and Ron Porter, Barbara and John Colombo, and Jeanie and Walter Brandli. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A second viewing will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10 am. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance regardless of vaccination status. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
