John William "Jack" Trainer, Jr.

Mr. John William “Jack” Trainer, Jr., age 86, of Newark, DE, formerly of South Philadelphia and Roxborough, PA, died March 26, 2020, in the tender and valiant care of the Little Sisters of the Poor Saint Jeanne Jugan Residence. Mr. Trainer was born in Philadelphia on April 19, 1933, the loving son of the late John William Trainer, Sr. and Georgeanna Hinchey Trainer, and brother to the late Marlene Barrier and Linda Trainer. “Handsome Smiling Jack” served his country in Korea as a “Tin Can Sailor” upon the U.S.S. Irwin. He spent the majority of his career as a Philadelphia Park Guard and Police Officer for over 25 years. A story and joke teller extraordinaire, it was not uncommon for Jack to keep his audience enthralled for hours. His many jobs and herculean work ethic made him a tireless provider for his family, while earning a degree from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science. He owned a successful carpet cleaning business and later worked for General Electric then Lockheed Martin. A devout and faithful convert to Catholicism, Mr. Trainer was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a pastoral council member of Saint Josaphat Parish in Manayunk and then Holy Family Parish in Newark. Preceded in death in 2009, he and his most beloved bride, Mrs. Constance Rose “Connie” Trainer, were joined for 47 years of wedded bliss – dancing through life with joy and passion. Retiring to Delaware, Jack & Connie were “dynamic-duo” volunteers at the Little Sisters of the Poor and members of the Association of Jeanne Jugan. His beautiful blue eyes, gentle smile, steadfast faith, and strength in suffering will be missed by his devoted children, Cheryl Ann Trainer of Collegeville, PA; Susan Marie Domino (Andrew) of Woodstock, GA; and John William Trainer III (Angela) of Naples, FL. He was the greatest Dziadziu of his adored grandchildren, Kristin Nicole Domino, Darren Michael Domino, Aelia Constance Trainer, +Thomas Maria Trainer, +Catherine Zoë Trainer, +Maximilian Mary Kolbe Trainer, John William “Jackie” Trainer IV, and Nikolaus Arthur Trainer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately. Interment will be with his beloved bride Constance Rose and grandson Thomas Maria Trainer, in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. A Memorial Mass and celebration will be held at a later date, when we can come together in the future to properly celebrate Jack’s life at a time when it is safe for all of us to gather. The family would especially like to thank the Little Sisters for the sacrificial love and care they, and their staff, gave to Jack over two decades, first as a volunteer, then as a resident.
