John F. Healy

Mr. John F. Healy, age 74, of Georgetown, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Born in Wilmington, DE, on January 2, 1947, he was a son of the late Alfred E. and Doris E. (Marine) Healy who resided near 2nd & Madison streets. Mr. Healy became a long-term resident of New Castle. He spent his late childhood in the Collins Park neighborhood. Following graduation from De-La-Warr High School, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1969. Afterward, Mr. Healy settled in Wilmington Manor to raise his family. He worked as a chemical operator for 31 years for ICI Americas, Inc. at their Atlas Point facility in New Castle, then retired in 2000. After retirement, Mr. Healy worked part-time as a driver/courier for several companies, including Dodd Dental, Dunbar Armored, and Sandhill Nurseries. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching little league baseball. In the early 1980s, Mr. Healy proudly led his Wilmington Manor Gardens team to many a victory, often resulting in a celebratory trip to Dairy Palace on Basin Road. He was a life-long blood donor and dedicated outdoorsman, with a particular passion for deer hunting. Mr. Healy hunted deer by bow, shotgun and rifle in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Later in life, he joined several hunting excursions in the Midwest. Mr. and Mrs. Healy moved to Georgetown in 2008, where they enjoyed a slower pace of living in retirement. Mr. Healy was also an avid television viewer. He could often be found relaxing in his Lazy Boy recliner watching his favorite shows, which included police dramas, game shows, and anything on the Outdoor Channel. Mr. Healy always enjoyed activities with his four grandchildren, such as fishing, crabbing and daytrips to Jungle Jim’s waterpark in Rehoboth. He also attended their numerous dance recitals and sporting events. Mr. Healy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Edith M. (Edwards) Healy; children, Teresa Zack of Chesapeake City, MD and Michael Healy (Tom) of Middletown; brother, Larry Healy (Donna); and grandchildren, John Hatton, Sloan Healy, Laine Healy, and Matthew Hatton. All services will be held privately.
