John E. Breznitsky

John E. Breznitsky, age 95, of New Castle, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Born in Freeland, PA on September 23, 1925, he was a son of the late John and Mary A. (Bartkovich) Breznitsky. John attended Upper Lehigh School and Foster High School in Freeland, PA. He left school to go to work at the Duplan Corporation in Hazelton, PA. John served in the United States Army during World War II as a Medic in the 322nd Medical Battalion of the 97th Infantry Division. After being discharged from the Army, later he married the love of his life, Mary T. Kendra, in 1950. They moved to Delaware in 1954 and John began working at General Motors until his retirement in 1991. While at General Motors he held various positions as a lineman, metal finisher and supervisor. John was also working at Tom’s Barber Shop as a barber until he retired in 2017. John was a member of American Legion Stahl Post #30 of New Castle as well as the VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the classics Bonanza, Gun Smoke, Saturday night shows from BBC, Let’s Make A Deal, The Price is Right, MASH, The Andy Griffith Show on MeTV. John could often be found at the park and watching the boats. He loved cars and listening to polka music. John was such a loving, caring Dad, Grandfather and person. He loved to joke around with his many friends and family, especially at the barber shop while cutting hair as “John the Barber” for 43 years. John’s wife was the love of his life and he’s so very happy to be with her again after missing her these past 8 years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary T. (Kendra) Breznitsky; sister, Mary Dzojko; and many extended family members. He is survived by his children, John J. Breznitsky (Linda), Jim Breznitsky (Sharon), Tom Breznitsky, Sr. (Debbie) and Rosemary Coleman (Brian); grandchildren, Thomas Breznitsky, Jr. (Jessica), Renee Pontak (Joe), Technical Sargeant Jimmy Breznitsky (Taylor), Katie Hackett (Jerry), Michele Mirolli (Joe), B.J. Coleman and Kevin Coleman; step grandchildren, Angela Allen and David Jochen; and many, many great grandchildren. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont, Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. Face masks will be required for all in attendance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Veteran’s Association of America, Inc., P.O. Box 309 Audubon Station, New York, NY 10032-0309, or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church at the address listed above.
