Jeanne (Corrie) Burge

Jeanne (Corrie) Burge, 70, of Newark, DE, suddenly passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Born in Wilmington on November 11, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Elmer P. and Virginia Corrie. Jeanne was a proud graduate of Newark High School NHS Class of ’71 in Newark, DE. She enjoyed a career as a Legal Secretary spanning more than 40 years, before her retirement in 2019. Jeanne met her husband, Wayne, in 1971, at the Merryland Roller Rink. They married in 1972, at Red Lion Methodist Church. In their earlier years, they enjoyed camping, white water rafting, and skiing. Jeanne loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren; host family dinners, go to lunch with her NHS friends; enjoyed Friday night dinners at Stewarts with her husband; and adored her grand-doggies. Jeanne especially enjoyed vacations to Aruba with her husband, cruising through the islands, and annual beach vacations. Wayne was without a doubt her best friend. They did everything together. They have shared a connection that is so much greater than love for 5 decades. Family was of upmost importance to Jeanne. Along with her own family, Jeanne was very close with Wayne’s side of the family and loved spending time with them at family reunions and holiday gatherings. It was a family that she considered her own. Jeanne was a sweet lady who could strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone who crossed her path, even a rock. The conversation would end with her knowing their life story and them knowing hers. She never considered anyone a stranger. She was a self-proclaimed chocoholic, held together by M&Ms candy and homemade iced tea, so much so that she asked for both hours before her passing. Jeanne was a two-time breast cancer survivor. She endured multiple surgeries and treatments with bravery and perseverance. She willingly shared her experience with others who were also battling and was always ready to lend a listening ear. Jeanne will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 52 years, Wayne Burge; her daughter, Stacie Cook (TJ); her son, Todd Burge (Wendy); her grandchildren, Noah and Tyler Cook; her grand-doggies Chloe and Finn; her bonus family, Chuck, Karen, and Dani Subda; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eileen Corrie, her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Glen King, and her mother and father-in-law, Paul and Betty Burge. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 2 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, with the service beginning at 2 pm. Inurnment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanne’s memory to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, Christiana Care Office of Philanthropy, 4000 Nexus Drive, Suite W3-300, Wilmington, DE 19803.
