James A. Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

James A. Smith, age 43, of St. Louis, MO and formerly of New Castle, DE, departed this life on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Born on December 21, 1973, he was the son of David Hugh Smith and Patricia Trish (Halter) Smith. Although he was born in Wilmington, DE, Jim spent much of his life in Missouri. He was a 1991 graduate of William Penn High School and received his undergraduate degree from Webster College in St. Louis. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 1/3rd Armored Cavalry for 2 years driving a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. He later worked for Mind Active as a media producer until December of 2015. Jim was a talented musician and member of the band Nervous Pudding booking clubs and private functions throughout the St. Louis area. He played several instruments, was a vocalist and inherited the nickname Jimmy Buckets for his exceptional drum skills. Jim was a member of Elks Lodge #9 and gave of his time as a youth football and baseball coach for his boy’s sports teams including the Ladue Jr. Rams (undefeated). He is survived by his mother, Trish; former wife, Christina; daughter, Sadie James Smith; stepsons, Gage and Trey Govero and Jack and Bram Levy; brothers, D. Bryan Smith (Claudia) of Phoenix, AZ and Matthew Smith (Sarah) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and nieces and nephews, Kylah, Nina, Zachary and Nicolas. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, February 10, 2017 at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 406 Main St., Odessa, DE 19730. Interment will be private.
