James A. "Jim" Fallers, Jr.

James A. “Jim” Fallers, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, firefighter, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the age of 82 in Wilmington, DE. A man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and a deep love for his family, Jim leaves behind a legacy of service, commitment, and cherished memories. Born on September 30, 1942, in Wilmington, DE, Jim grew up on 2nd and Jackson Street, right next to the firehouse—which served as an inspiration for the man who would go on to dedicate his life to firefighting. He was a proud graduate of Wilmington High School, where he built the foundation of his lifelong values: hard work, resilience, and loyalty. Jim began his career with the Wilmington Fire Department on February 21, 1964, and proudly served for over 21 years, retiring on August 15, 1985, with Badge #41. He took immense pride in his work, driving all apparatus and specializing in hydraulics. He was also a skilled ladder truck operator, known for his precision and expertise. Even after retiring, Jim’s work ethic never slowed. He continued to serve his community in various roles, including security at MBNA and part-time jobs at Acme Markets, a video store, a flower shop, a funeral parlor, and a golf course. While firefighting was Jim’s profession, baseball was his passion. A beloved baseball coach, Jim had a profound impact on many young athletes. His greatest joy, however, came from watching three generations of Fallers play baseball—always from his chair in right field at Wilson Field. He never missed a chance to cheer on his sons and grandsons, proudly supporting them with the same dedication he showed in all areas of his life. Beyond the ball field, Jim loved spending time at the Delaware beaches with his family, watching classic movies and television binge-watching with his wife, Eileen, and keeping up with college football and the NFL. A lifelong trivia enthusiast, his encyclopedic knowledge of movies and trivia was unmatched. He also enjoyed playing golf (always getting the first tee-time of the day) and valued time spent with family and close friends. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen; his sister, Sally Kaczur (Stan); his sons, Brian (Jean) and Jimmy (Melissa); and his grandchildren, Brendan (Tara), James (Paige), Jake, Colin, Taylor, and Reid, as well as his two great-granddaughters, Millie and Vana. He is also survived by his loyal companion, his dog, Mason. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Madaline and Jim Sr. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
