George Walter Paris

George Paris, 78, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of his family at his home in Glen Mills, PA, on July 2, 2020, after an extended illness. Born and raised in Delaware, George was the beloved son of the late Ralph M. and Anna May Paris born August 29, 1941. George was married to Constance Blades Paris for 29 years, who predeceased him on December 23, 1991 after succumbing to cancer. In addition to his parents and Connie, George was preceded in death by brothers Ralph W. (Bill) Paris, married to Theresa, and Robert A. Paris, married to Sally Ann. George is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Kathleen Bocek Paris, having married on April 29, 1996; two children, Kristine, married to John Morris, Townsend, DE, and Stephen, married to Amy, Elkton, MD; two stepsons, Travis Tomb, married to Jennifer, Murrysville, PA, and Michael Tomb, married to Jaime, Downingtown, PA; four grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Morris, and Logan and Braden Paris; and 5 step-grandchildren, Sydney, Emma, and Dylan Tomb, and Theresa and Cooper Tomb. George also treasured his long and loving relationships with the Blades and Bocek families as well as with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews in his extended family. After graduating from Conrad High School in 1959, he began his employment at All American Engineering (ESCO). Consequently, George happily spent many years of his life working there and raising his family as a devoted father. Upon meeting Kathy, George relocated to Delaware County, PA, and eventually established residence in Glen Mills. He retired as the Director of Quality Assurance from the same company he had provided 40+ years of dedicated service. With the additional time that retirement provided, George especially enjoyed his Glen Mills community as the activities of the neighborhood afforded him the opportunity to make numerous friends throughout the 23 years he spent living there. George would be the first to tell anyone and everyone how fortunate he was to have had a long and fulfilling life even though he suffered the personal tragedies of losing both of his brothers in their 29th year; Ralph, in a motor vehicle accident, and Robert, in the line of duty as a Delaware State Trooper, and his first wife; the mother of his children. George persevered and successfully rebuilt his life as he remarried and established a special bond with all of the members of his blended family. In addition, George had many interests including golfing; traveling; dining out at favorite restaurants; bird watching; growing flowers; and viewing athletic events, with a special passion for baseball, football, and soccer teams that included his children and grandchildren. He relished his role as Pop-Pop and cherished spending time with his family, particularly at Disney World and on cruises, birthday parties, holidays, and other milestone events. George loved vacationing at the Jersey shore and did so at the Blades family home in Ocean City for the entirety of his adult life. Numerous loving memories were made during those times and George delighted in documenting them with photographs. George was known as a “Mr. Fix-it” and all of his neighbors, both in DE and PA, knew that George had a tool for every project. As a result, he enjoyed researching any and all “gadgets” and learning the latest in technology. George, his iPhone, and Apple Watch became inseparable as he used them to communicate, record photographs, monitor his vital signs, and access numerous apps to operate just about everything even including the grass watering system. Those fortunate enough to spend time with George will especially miss his wit, sense of humor, trustworthiness, and desire to assist in any way that he could. The family expresses gratitude to the numerous medical professionals for their care and continued support of George and his wellbeing throughout the years he dealt with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). A special thank you is extended to Connie’s sister, Sheila Warren, wife of John. She was the main caregiver for Connie throughout her extended illness and end-of-life and was at George and Kathy’s home when he returned from the hospital to ensure his comfort as he passed. The current coronavirus pandemic has created numerous challenges for families when dealing with the loss of a loved one in how to honor the death appropriately. This is especially true for George as he believed in the importance of showing his respect for his friends and families lives when lost and would never miss doing so. However, these uncertain times make it impossible for the family to hold the service previously envisioned to honor George at this time. Relatives and friends are invited to form an automobile procession on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 between 10:15 and 10:30 AM at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home located at 1000 N DuPont Pkwy, New Castle, DE 19720. The car procession will travel to Gracelawn Memorial Park for an 11 AM graveside service in compliance with Covid-19 regulations. During a short service, the immediate family will utilize a canopy and the surrounding area. Guests may join the outdoor service if wearing a mask and maintaining 6 feet of distance from others or remain in or near their cars. Due to the design of the cemetery roadway, all cars in the procession will enter and exit together. A Celebration of Life in George’s honor will be held in the summer of 2021.
