Frieda K. Forestieri

Frieda K. Forestieri, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. I was born in Dublin, VA, and was raised by my grandparents from birth and until I was 10 years old with unconditional love. When my grandfather became ill and they could no longer care for me, I met my mother for the first time and was moved to Baltimore, MD to live with her. She was a registered nurse and we made up for lost time. She made sure I enjoyed all the city had to offer; school, street cars, Girl Scouts, Sunday school, downtown movies and roller skating. My neighbors and friends were all races and religions, the best way to learn about life and make friends. My senior year of school was spent in Elkton, MD. I got married at eighteen and five years later, my two children were born. Michael and Cathy were born eleven months apart. We moved to Delaware when the children started school. They both graduated from William Penn High School and Delcastle Technical High School. My husband, George H. Ganzman died at age 50. I worked at Wooleyhan Transport Company for 25 years as a switchboard operator and then as a switchboard operator and receptionist at Deacon Industrial Supply for another 25 years. My business card read “Director of First Impressions.” I like to cook, write poetry and read. I always wore makeup and lipstick when I went out. I met and married William “Bill” Forestieri in 1986. We agreed it was the best thing that ever happened to us. He was the love of my life. We enjoyed traveling to the Florida Keys every April, fishing in Rehoboth Bay and in Lewes on the “Semper Fi.” We worked until our late 70’s. We volunteered at the VA Hospital and coached youth football. We were inseparable until Bill died in 2017. My son, Michael died in 2013, leaving Jane and their 8 beautiful children in Tennessee. Sadly, my loving son-in-law, Terry, passed away in 2020 leaving my daughter heart broken. I am survived by my daughter, Cathy, who is my angel of support, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Jane, nieces and nephews, and extended family. I will join Bill in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. Once again we will be together, as we longed to be. In lieu of flowers, say a prayer for a veteran. Love and Semper Fi, Frieda
