Evelyn Marioneaux

Evelyn Marioneaux, age 78, passed away on the snowy morning of February 12, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family as God called her home to heaven. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, on April 13th 1940, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Elva Zukowski. As Maya Angelo once said “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Evelyn was sunshine on a cloudy day. She will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion to others. She was a devoted Christian, mother, and wife. She loved the quote by Isabel Allende, “You only have what you give. It’s by spending yourself that you become rich.” Evelyn loved to love; through giving she connected with others and left a lasting impact. As a bridal consultant and special needs bus driver, Evelyn thrived on spreading happiness. Evelyn enjoyed writing poetry, creating art, gardening, cooking, and dancing. Her favorite places were the beach and her beautiful garden. Evelyn was rich with love and genuinely lived her life to the fullest with her energetic personality. She will always be remembered for her laughter, her wisdom, her beauty, and her passionate spirit. She is survived by her husband, Kirk Marioneaux; sister, Lorraine Ash; and children, Susan Burns, Catherine Magner, Jimmy (Rachel) Magner, and Kimberly (Nick) Phillips. She played an active role in the lives of her eight grandchildren whom she adored: Zachary, Tyler, Chelsea, Austin, Shaw, Madeline, Ashley, and Nicholas. Selflessly she continued to put others first even in the end when writing her final poem. A poem to comfort her loved ones once she passed. It goes as follows: Taken Home: When I am finally taken home, cry a joyful tear for me… Blow a kiss up to the heavens and I will blow one back to thee… Through the gentle breeze that blows I’ll send it right your way… For my gentle kiss to get you through each and everyday… I am now your guardian Angel to guide you through all strife… For your guardian Angel is the one who’s loved you all your life… – E. Marioneaux She often said Philippians 4:13, which was also her date of birth, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 pm until 4 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 4 pm.
