David James "Dave" Miller

David James “Dave” Miller, age 57, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Born in Wilmington, DE on April 3, 1965, he was a son of Georgianna Helen (Hedrick) Miller and the late Paul Jesse Miller, Sr. Dave was an IT expert for Advanced Networking. A man of faith, Dave was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church as well as the trustees, and was the lead organizer of the childcare committee. In 2016, David became the Chair of the Board of Directors for Asbury Early Learning Center, focused on continuing the Asbury tradition of providing an affordable early education in New Castle. He poured his energy into renovating each space to make it engaging and safe for the children. Dave also spent a majority of his free time doing maintenance at the church. Dave was a very active member of the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) for over 40 years. He ran multiple fundraisers to pay for expenses of travel and materials. Dave traveled to the Appalachian’s every summer for weeks at a time working on various housing projects to improve the living conditions of the residents of the Appalachia Community. Dave enjoyed working on computers and had an extensive, organized collection of tools. He loved his truck and listening to the Grateful Dead, often wearing their tie-dye shirts. Dave’s favorite memories were spent with his nephews and taking them on trips. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Paul J. Miller, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Georgianna H. Miller of New Castle; brothers, Paul “P.J.” Miller (Rae-Ann) of Alexandria, VA, and Robert “Bob” Miller (Donna) of Newark; nieces and nephews, Matthew Miller, Kyle Miller, Brett Miller, Kelli Scroger, and Kim Scroger; and great-nephew, Jackson. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 East Basin Road, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will be held at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.
