Beverly Armstrong Walton

Beverly Armstrong Walton, age 90, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 in the home where she was born, built by her father, across the street from her grandmother and next door to her sister. She attended Henry C. Conrad High School when the Delaware City High School was closed during World War II. Mrs. Walton was principally a homemaker, but for many years assisted with her parents’ business, Armstrong’s Antiques, and later her own business, Walton’s Antiques. For years, she was also a local correspondent for the News Journal and had several front-page article features. Mrs. Walton was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City and served as an elder as well as a deacon, plus sang for many years as a soprano in its choir. She also volunteered in many local civic and charitable activities, including the public lending library, the town’s sesquicentennial committee, lead a Brownie troop and initiated the “Please Touch Museum” with her life-long friend, Ann Lakey. Mrs. Walton’s interests also consisted of reading, painting, decorating, and needlework. She researched and collected items of local history that involved fishing, shooting and trapping activities on the river and C&D Canal, as well as the genealogy and history of the Ogle family, of which she was a member. Mrs. Walton was predeceased by her parents, Thomas J. and Marian Crenshaw Armstrong; sister and life-long neighbor, R. Eugenia Crompton and her brother, Col. Benjamin F. Armstrong. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Henry Walton; daughter, Jill H. Snow; nephews, Charles S. Crompton Jr., Thomas F. Crompton, M. D., Benjamin F. Armstrong, Jr., and Charles M. Walton, Jr.; nieces, Linda Heeren and Wendy Oakes; dear cousin, Judith Reynolds; friend and neighbor, Brenda Parker; and special friend, Edyn Poster.
